Germany's expertise in the areas of transport, construction and urban development is sought after across the globe. One out of every two jobs is in a sector geared to exports. Trade with foreign clients already accounts for a third of the turnover of German companies, and the huge potential of foreign markets is far from exhausted. The Ministry for Transport, Building and Urban Development and the "Germany - Land of Ideas" initiative are united in their desire to see Germany exploiting to the maximum its economic opportunities abroad.
At the International Transport Forum in Leipzig Minister Ramsauer extolled the virtues of the many innovative technologies issuing from the Land of Ideas: "The brochure is packed with fascinating instances of the high art of German engineering." The 48-page publication spotlights ten dynamic export areas associated with transport, construction and urban development. They range from electric cars to telematics, from airport management to the plus-energy house. "Selected Landmarks" from the years 2006 - 2011 underscore Germany's claim to be the "Land of Ideas".
The brochure is aimed at all interested parties at home and abroad - from ordinary individuals wishing to read up on export issues in Germany to foreign governments and companies with an interest in particular innovations.
From 25th to 27th May a thousand International Transport Forum visitors from around the world were looking for answers to the question of how to produce clever design solutions for the mobility of tomorrow. At the same time, transport ministers from 52 OECD member states met for talks in Leipzig.
