Germany and China – Moving Ahead Together

From 2007 to 2010 Germany showcased itself in Chinese metropolises as a Land of Ideas.

With around 1.8 million participants, the event series “Germany and China – Moving Ahead Together” under the patronage of German Federal President Horst Köhler and Chinese President Hu Jintao was the largest presentation of Germany abroad so far. From 2007 to 2010, Germany demonstrated in several important Chinese metropolises that it is an innovative, creative, forward-looking partner. Unlike in a typical year of culture, business also presented itself. Alongside the official partners Allianz, BASF, Daimler, Deutsche Bank, DHL, and Siemens, there were partners on certain legs of the tour, including BOSCH and Herrenknecht, and numerous sponsors. The German Federal Ministry of Education and Research and the German Federal Ministry of Economics and Technology also took part.

Due to the successful cooperation in various fields, the event series promoted mutual understanding and trust between Germans and Chinese. Under the theme “sustainable urbanization” Germany offered to help develop and implement joint German-Chinese visions and innovative, sustainable solutions to meet the challenges of urbanization.

The project was organised by the German Federal Foreign Office in cooperation with the Goethe-Institut, the Asia Pacific Committee of German Business (APA), and the “Germany – Land of Ideas” initiative.
