International crew on board!
Young people from many different nations perform in plays, make radio programmes, and shoot films.
Interculturalism is a watchword at the Hamburg Elbstation Akademie. Children and youth from various countries who come from socially disadvantaged families rehearse plays, produce radio programmes, and make films here. It is very important to the professional experts who supervise the children at the academy that the culture conveyed reflects the lives of the pupils. Professional film people show the young people in the film group filmmaking tricks in areas ranging from cinematography to editing. Whether they are making dramas, action films, or documentaries, the young filmmakers have complete freedom. The youth in the theatre group write their own plays and stage stories that touch on their lives. At the end, they are rewarded by standing ovations from large audiences. In the radio group, the young people are taught the ABCs of the radio trade step for step. They produce youth programmes and even go on the air themselves. In addition to the media and theatre work, the experts also give the youth educational and job orientation. The objective of the succeeding “Alumni on Board!” program is to provide the youth with educational counselling and coaching as they look for training places, and to help them write applications as they embark on studies or a career. Thus, the Elbstation gives young people support, conveys cultural techniques to them, and enables them to engage with their roots creatively. And the incorporation of parents and teachers enhances their social network. As a result, they can cast off and go full steam ahead into the future!
