INa e.V. – integration aid and tutoring
Learning made easy
In the “INa” house, pupils are given linguistic and professional support in small groups for two school periods daily
The “INa!” house in Schwaikheim is reminiscent of Pippi Longstocking’s colourful home, Villa Villekulla. Brightly coloured surfaces adorn the façade, giving visitors an impression of the diversity they will find behind it: This is a very special integration house! Since 2005, the Integrations- und Nachhilfe (Integration and Tutoring) association, or INa for short, has looked after children and youth who are disadvantaged for various reasons, supporting them in all school-related matters. The project was planned and is carried out by people with and without a migration background. Most of the volunteer employees are students studying to become teachers. Their protégés come to them for two school periods a day and they learn together in small groups of up to eight children. For both the pupils and the employees, the interaction in INa transcends tutoring. The pupils’ good relationship to the staff is enhanced by extracurricular activities such as film evenings, creative afternoons, and game evenings. This has a positive impact on the learning atmosphere. Today, the INa house also organises a series of impressive work groups. In cooperation with schools and municipalities, it offers art, theatre, cooking, and different sports activities, alternating at half-year intervals. In a fun way, the group leaders convey to the children that education opens up opportunities. This message seems to have hit home, as so far none of the INa pupils has dropped out of school. And in addition to the educational offer, INa has since 2010 served a sumptuous lunch with a changing meal plan with the food prepared together with the pupils.
