Young trainee ambassadors
Trainees and trainers in one
In courses they plan and teach themselves, trainees prepare pupils for their education.
The training programme at the BW Bildung und Wissen publishing house has an unusual component: the trainees become trainers themselves, preparing pupils for their careers in participatory workshops. The trainees have an advantage over “normal” instructors. Not very long ago, they had the same questions and concerns as the young applicants they are now teaching. As a result, they can address the issues more compassionately. The trainees plan and develop workshops completely independently and carry them out themselves. They authentically convey to the pupils how the latter can tackle the challenges involved in looking for a training place. The target group largely consists of youth with difficult starting conditions. Whether the children have a migration background, learning weaknesses, or physical limitations, the trainees encourage the pupils and show them how they can obtain information about the occupation they want to pursue, which jobs match their strengths, and how they can become a perfect applicant in the eyes of employers. Supported by their training supervisor, the trainees also practice job interviews with the pupils. Thus, the youth know exactly what to expect and how to present themselves in the best possible light. Moreover, since 2005 a generation of trainees has passed on their know-how to the next, ensuring that the concept is continually advanced. In this way, everyone can make the leap from schooling to training!
